　　We step into Kevin’s classroom at Sino-Canada Middle School. The classroom is full of vitality. Students work in groups, discussing, thinking and collaborating. In this lesson themed on endangered species, jigsaw puzzles, team challenges and creative posters bring English learning to life. We sat down with Kevin, who has ten years of teaching and living experience in China, to talk about his teaching journey, observations on student growth and expectations for the new semester.

　　我们走进枫华初中部Kevin 老师的课堂。教室里气氛鲜活，学生们分组围坐，讨论、思考、协作。这节以濒危物种为主题的课堂，把拼图、团队挑战与创意海报融入英语学习。我们和在中国拥有十年教学经验的 Kevin 老师展开对话，聊聊他的教学历程、学生成长的点滴以及对新学期的期许。

　　Kevin老师的自我介绍

　　Hi, I'm Kevin. I'm from the UK. I've been teaching and living in China for the last 10 years. I've taught students of different ages and different English levels. I've had a lot of different experiences as a teacher in China, and I'm always trying to develop what I do in the classroom.

　　大家好，我是 Kevin，来自英国。过去十年里，我一直在中国教书和生活。我教过不同年龄段、英语水平各不相同的学生。在中国当老师的这些年，我经历了很多不同的事情，我也一直在努力改进自己的课堂教学。

　　在枫华任教感受如何?

　　SINO-CANADA SCHOOL

　　This is my second year at Sino-Canada School. I'm really enjoying my time here. I was made to feel very welcome when I joined the school, and I really enjoy getting to know the students and seeing their different personalities. It's been a very positive experience. I feel I know the students much better this year, and I understand what works well with them. I'm looking forward to continuing to work with them and seeing how much they progress this year.

　　这是我在枫华初中学部任教的第二年，我很享受在这里的时光。刚加入学校时，大家都让我感到备受欢迎，我也特别享受了解学生、观察他们不同个性的过程。总体来看，这是一段非常积极的经历。今年我觉得自己对学生了解得更深了，也更清楚怎样教对他们最有效。我期待继续和他们一起努力，见证他们今年能取得多大的进步。

　　同学们最令人惊喜的进步

　　During this teaching period, one of the biggest improvements I've noticed is the students' confidence. They're using their English a lot more. They've become used to how I teach in the classroom and what to expect, so they've warmed up to me and are starting to be more confident in the classroom. That's always good to see. It's the small changes that build up over time, and then you get to see the real progress. It's been great.

　　在这段教学期间，我注意到的最大进步之一，就是学生们自信心的提升。他们现在用英语远比以前多。他们已经习惯了我的课堂教学方式，知道课堂上会发生什么，因此和我熟络起来，在课堂中也变得越来越自信。看到这些总是令人高兴。正是这些一点一滴的小改变，随着时间不断积累，最终让你看到真正的进步。这一切都很棒。

　　对学生的期待有哪些?

　　SINO-CANADA SCHOOL

　　I guess my expectation is that I just want them to keep trying and keep making progress. They all have different English levels, so I don't expect everybody to make progress at the same speed. But as long as they're trying, as long as they are participating in class and working together, and they understand that making mistakes is normal and it's all part of the learning process, that's what I hope.

　　我想，我的期望就是希望他们不断尝试、持续进步。每个学生的英语水平都不一样，所以我并不要求每个人都以同样的速度进步。只要他们肯努力，只要他们在课堂上积极参与、彼此合作，并且明白犯错是正常的、是学习过程中不可或缺的一部分 —— 这就是我最大的期望。

　　英语堂课的设计思路

　　The lesson being filmed today is part of our current unit on animals. We have been focusing on endangered species. The students had already learned the vocabulary and the grammar that go with that vocabulary, and they've done a lot of reading, so today was more of a review, letting them show what they've already learned and what they remember. They worked in teams to complete a series of wildlife challenges involving vocabulary, sentence structure, observation, memory and problem solving. Each time they solved a challenge or a mystery, they earned a piece of a jigsaw puzzle, which they then had to put together into an image of an endangered animal. Then they read some facts about that animal and made a poster.

　　今天拍摄的这堂课，是我们当前 “动物” 单元的一部分，重点是濒危物种。学生们此前已经学过与该主题相关的词汇和语法，也做了大量阅读，所以今天更像是一次复习，让他们展示已经学到和还记得的内容。他们以小组为单位完成一系列 “野生动物挑战”，涉及词汇、句型结构、观察、记忆和问题解决。每解开一个挑战或谜题，他们就能获得一块拼图;拼合起来便是一种濒危动物的图像。随后，他们阅读了关于这种动物的一些知识，并制作了一张海报。
